Amy Arthur

Built upon the philosophy of Deter. Alert. Delay., the Academy replaces conflicting advice and complicated methods with practical instruction, guiding you step by step through the principles that define a true DAD Doberman.

Whether you're choosing your first Doberman, raising a puppy, or refining the leadership of an adult dog, you'll gain the knowledge, structure, and confidence to build lasting results through the Tackleberry Standard.

What is the DAD Academy?

The DAD Academy goes beyond teaching you how to train a Doberman. It teaches you how to read one—how to recognize potential, understand what behavior is telling you, and make informed decisions that shape the protector your dog becomes.

Through practical, step-by-step instruction, you'll gain the knowledge and clarity to make better decisions throughout your dog's development—replacing guesswork and conflicting advice with a proven framework built around the philosophy of Deter. Alert. Delay.

DAD stands for:

Pushing the limits

Deter. A confident Doberman discourages conflict before it begins.

Getting stronger

Alert: You should have early notice if something may be cause for concern.

Being motivated

Delay: No matter their training, a protection dog's role is to give you time to react.

The goal is opportunity. In many cases, those few extra moments to respond in kind or retreat are the greatest form of protection you can receive.

Learn How to Think, Not Just What to Do

Anyone can teach a dog to sit.

The real challenge is knowing when to socialize, how to build confidence after a setback, what your Doberman's behavior is telling you, and which principles matter most as your dog develops.

The DAD Academy teaches you how to understand the dog in front of you—not simply follow a set of instructions. You'll gain the knowledge and judgment to make confident decisions throughout your Doberman's life, even when there isn't a lesson telling you exactly what to do next.

Because the goal isn't to memorize a training system. It's to understand your Doberman well enough to lead with confidence.

Perfect for:

  • Those researching the right path to Doberman protection.
  • Owners raising a Doberman puppy with purpose.
  • Current Doberman owners ready to build greater confidence, stability, and reliability.
  • Those considering professional protection development and wanting to understand what it truly requires.
  • Owners who want to make informed decisions—not simply follow training techniques.

One of the most common misconceptions about protection dogs is that effective protection begins with bite work. It doesn't. Not even for bite dogs.

Meaningful protection begins much earlier—with a Doberman's presence, confidence, awareness, stability, and ability to respond appropriately to the world around them.

The principles of Deter. Alert. Delay. are built around that foundation. A confident Doberman can discourage unwanted attention, alert you when something isn't right, and create valuable time for your family to respond before a situation escalates.

For many, that's exactly the protection they're looking for. Others may choose to develop those same foundations further through professionally guided protection work.

The DAD Academy gives you the knowledge to understand the difference—and choose the path that reflects the role you want your Doberman to fulfill.

How the Academy Works

You don't need to reorganize your life around dog training. You need to understand what matters, practice it consistently, and know what to work on next.

The DAD Academy gives you a clear, step-by-step path for turning what you learn into everyday habits with your Doberman.

No complicated routines. No expectation of perfection. Just the right knowledge, applied consistently, with a clear understanding of what comes next.

Discover Your Doberman

Begin by learning to see more than behavior. You'll explore temperament, natural instincts, confidence, communication, and the qualities already emerging in your dog—giving you a clearer understanding of who you're working with and what they need from you.

Build the Foundation

Turn that understanding into everyday development. Through purposeful experiences, leadership, obedience, social exposure, and confidence-building, you'll begin shaping the qualities that make a DAD Doberman dependable in real life.

Take It Into the Real World

This is where the principles leave the lesson and become part of your life together. New environments. Visitors. Children. Public outings. Distractions. Unexpected situations.

You'll learn how to use ordinary life as an opportunity to develop a calmer, more capable Doberman.

Master the Principles

As you and your Doberman progress, the individual pieces begin to work together. You'll learn how to confidently adapt what you've learned to different environments, challenges, and stages of development—without needing a script for every situation.

This is where knowledge becomes instinct. Instead of wondering what to do next, you'll have the understanding to lead with purpose, recognize what your Doberman needs, and continue building upon the DAD Philosophy in everyday life.

The goal isn't to memorize a training system. It's to master the principles well enough to make them your own.

Demonstrate What You've Built

When you're ready, you and your Doberman can put that development into action through the practical evaluation for DAD Standard Recognition.

DAD Standard Recognition

Demonstrating the Standard

The DAD Academy gives you the knowledge and framework to develop your Doberman with purpose. DAD Standard Recognition gives you the opportunity to demonstrate what you and your dog have built together.

Rather than earning recognition through quizzes or simply completing lessons, you'll have the opportunity to submit practical videos demonstrating your development as a team in real-world situations.

Your submissions are evaluated against the principles of the DAD Standard, including the qualities that matter most in everyday family protection: confidence, stability, communication, leadership, environmental awareness, and reliable behavior.

Recognition is earned, not automatically awarded.

Those who achieve it become part of a distinguished group of Dobermans and handlers recognized under the DAD Standard, with their achievement formally documented within the Tackleberry system.

Choose Your Division

Two paths. One philosophy. Different missions.

The DAD Academy recognizes that meaningful family protection doesn't look the same for everyone. Your division reflects how you want your Doberman to protect—not how accomplished you want your dog to become.

Both divisions are grounded in the principles of Deter. Alert. Delay. The difference is how far you choose to develop your Doberman's role when a threat moves beyond deterrence.

Amy Arthur serves as the First Arbiter of the Tackleberry Alliance and oversees the preservation and advancement of the Tackleberry Standard.

Through years of raising, training, and evaluating Dobermans for family protection, she has developed a practical approach centered on confidence, stability, and purposeful leadership.

She is the creator of the DAD Philosophy—Deter. Alert. Delay.

Her experience has shaped a philosophy centered on understanding the individual dog—its temperament, instincts, strengths, and developmental needs—rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all training formula. Her approach looks beyond behavior to understand the dog beneath it, allowing each Doberman's natural potential to be developed with purpose.

Faqs

Do I need to already own a Doberman?

No. The Academy is designed to be valuable whether you're still selecting a Doberman, raising a puppy, or developing an adult dog.

Does my Doberman need to come from Tackleberry?

No. The DAD Academy is educational and is open to responsible Doberman owners regardless of where their dog originated.

Do I need previous dog-training experience?

No. The Academy teaches the principles behind what you're doing so you can understand and apply them confidently rather than simply follow instructions.

Which Division should I choose?

Choose according to your objective. The Family Division focuses on meaningful family protection without professionally developed bite work. The Professional Division is for owners whose goals include professionally developed physical protection.

Is the Professional Division more advanced than the Family Division?

No. They represent different missions, not different levels of achievement. Neither is a prerequisite for the other.

Will the Professional Division teach me to train my own dog to bite?

No. Physical protection development requires qualified, hands-on professional training. The Professional Division gives you the education to understand that process, make informed decisions, work effectively with professionals, and responsibly handle and maintain a protection-trained Doberman.

Can an adult Doberman participate?

Yes. While some developmental principles are especially valuable during puppyhood, the Academy is designed to improve your understanding and leadership throughout your Doberman's life.

What is DAD Standard Recognition?

DAD Standard Recognition is an earned distinction available to Academy students who choose to demonstrate the principles and standards established by the Tackleberry Institute. The complete recognition process is introduced inside the Academy.

How long will I have access?

Founding enrollment includes lifetime access to the division you select, including future updates to its core curriculum.

What does Founding Pre-Enrollment mean?

You're securing admission before the Academy's official release. This allows you to reserve lifetime access at founding tuition while the complete curriculum is building.

Your Doberman. Your objective. Your division.

Raising an exceptional Doberman isn't about collecting hundreds of techniques or getting every decision perfect. It's about understanding the principles that matter, applying them consistently, and having the confidence to know what to do next.

The DAD Academy was built to give you that foundation.
